Choose an easy removal method

You do not need to type commands to get started. Turn subtitles off for watching, use a desktop app to save a copy without selectable subtitles, or try online removal for words that stay in the picture.

Start with one quick check

Open the video and turn subtitles off. If they disappear, the picture underneath is already clear. If they remain, check the video in an empty folder to rule out a separate subtitle file.

Play a moment where the words are easy to see.
Turn subtitles off
Open your player’s subtitle menu and choose Off or Disable. If the words disappear, you can watch without them.
Check any words that remain
Copy the video to an empty folder and try again with subtitles off. Words that still appear may be part of the picture and need a different removal method.

Keep the original and save a separate result

Use a clear new filename so you can compare the original with the result. If your video has more than one spoken language, check that the one you want is included.

Open the result from its saved folder and check the scenes you care about.

Open the new file and watch a scene that originally had subtitles.
Check the subtitle menu: no unwanted subtitle languages should be available in a file saved without subtitles.
Listen near the beginning and end. Check any other audio languages you want to keep.
If subtitles return, copy the video to an empty folder and reopen it. A nearby subtitle file may be adding them.
Check the full length and keep the original until you are happy with the result.

Subtitles return when I reopen the video

Likely cause: Your player may turn subtitles back on or load a subtitle file from the same folder.

What to do: For viewing, turn them off in the player. For sharing, check the export’s subtitle settings and test the saved video in an empty folder.

The saved video has the wrong audio language

Likely cause: The export may have kept a different language from the one you wanted.

What to do: Open the original again, choose the language you need in the Audio tab and save another copy.

The words never disappear

Likely cause: They may already be part of the video picture.

What to do: Try a short clip with AI subtitle removal and compare the result before processing a longer video.

Try files with a separate subtitle track

These four-second samples show subtitles you can turn off. Open one in a player with subtitle controls and try it yourself. The third file shows the same video with those subtitles removed. All three are silent.

These samples keep the same video picture. Words fixed in the picture would need a different removal method.

Only have text burned into the picture?

Once you have a supported MP4, MOV or WebM, you can preview it locally and review the cost of automatic repair. A separate subtitle track does not need this step.

Do I need FFmpeg to remove subtitles?

Why do subtitles remain after I turn them off?
