Find the right method

하드코딩 자막 제거

Hardcoded, burned-in and hardsub all describe subtitles that have become part of the video image. Turning a subtitle track off cannot hide them.

Hardcoded, burned-in and hardsub all describe words rendered into video frames. Removing a selectable subtitle track cannot change those pixels; repair estimates the covered image.

Confirm the words are in the picture

Disable subtitles in your player. If the words remain, check whether a second subtitle source is still enabled. When the text remains in the actual frames, it needs picture repair rather than subtitle-track removal.

  1. Disable the subtitle display

Open the clip in a player with subtitle controls and turn the active track off.

Check: If all words disappear, you can leave them out when saving a new copy.

  2. Rule out a second source

Check for a second internal track or a similarly named SRT/ASS file. A bilingual file can mix switchable and burned-in lines.

Check: One line disappearing does not classify the other line.

  3. Inspect the same frame

Look at the paused picture with subtitle display disabled. Words that remain part of that picture need an image-level edit.

Why complete restoration is not guaranteed

A subtitle replaces visible information in the frame. AI reconstructs a plausible background from the available picture; it cannot know every hidden detail. A plain wall and a moving face present very different repair problems.

Choose a representative test scene
Background beneath textUseful testInspection priority
Plain wall or skyInclude a subtitle appearing and disappearing.Edges or patches changing when the words switch.
Clothes or hairInclude movement through the subtitle band.Fine detail and repeated texture.
Two subtitle linesInclude both lines at their largest coverage. The whole combined area, including shadows.

Inspect more than one frame

Use the dialogue and bilingual samples to compare thin letter edges and larger covered regions. Pause during motion, immediately before a caption changes and just after it disappears. Check whether the texture stays consistent.

Understand the names

Hardcoded or burned-in subtitles are words fixed in the picture. “Embedded subtitles” can also mean subtitles you can turn off, so check your video before choosing a removal method.

Keep a repair decision reversible

Inspect the processed portion before building a new edit around it.

Accept the result only after checking

  • The full width of the subtitle band, not only the center.
  • 텍스트 변경 전후의 몇 프레임.
  • Any sign, label or other text that must remain readable.
  • The downloaded file’s actual duration and audio.

Questions and answers

Can hardcoded subtitles be removed completely?

They can be repaired, but complete removal with a perfectly restored background is not guaranteed. Test the actual subtitle style and inspect the whole processed clip.

Are hardsubs and burned-in subtitles the same thing?

Yes. Both describe subtitles rendered into the picture rather than stored only as switchable text.
